LU's Student Health Center has partnered with TimelyCare to provide students with 24/7 access to virtual mental health services for free. Students do not need insurance to participate. By signing up in the portal, you can access 24/7 on-demand emotional support and scheduled counseling sessions!

Holocaust Portraits of Survival

In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, The LU Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting Portraits of Survival which features modern day portraits of Holocaust survivors. Next to each photo is a card telling the survivor’s story and how they came to rebuild their life.

Volunteers Needed to Address Homelessness

Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is a single-day event to gather data on needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Southeast Texas. In partnership with the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission, we seek data collection volunteers for PIT Day. Faculty and student participation is encouraged. Training provided. LU LEAD Leadership Certificate Program helps students develop leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and communication skills, and connect with other students and staff. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Seeking Volunteers
Deadline: Saturday, Jan. 20
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is looking for student volunteers for the 2024 tax preparation sites on campus and the Neighborhood Resource Center on Gulf Street in Beaumont. The VITA program is a free program that provides tax filing to individuals who had a total household income of $64,000 or less during 2023. VITA is also seeking IRS-certified tax preparers. Certification clases will be held on the LU campus on Saturday, Jan. 20. Please contact the LU Office of Strategic Initiatives at (409) 880-7169 for more information.

State of Texas Seeking Non-Voting Student Representatives to TSUS Board of Regents & THECB
Deadline: Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, 5 p.m. Location: LU Reaud Building, Office of the President, Room 321
Each year, the State of Texas seeks applicants for non-voting student representatives to the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Students selected for these positions play an important part in representing the students of each Texas public university.
Applicants must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, be able to attend required TSUS or THECB meetings, and have a strong drive and self-motivation to contribute to the progress of higher education in Texas. Applications must be printed out and submitted no later than Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. to the Office of the President, Reaud Building, Room 321.

The deadline is extended to Feb. 15 for submissions to the Graduate Research Conference to be held on March 28 in the Setzer Center. The conference will focus on AI, but there are open topics and sessions from all fields of inquiry.
