Dinners in the Spring
Dinners in the Spring

Date(s): Monday, Mar. 25, Monday, Apr. 1, Monday, Apr. 8
Location: LU Nutrition, Hospitality & Human Services Atrium

LU culinary students will begin hosting Dinners in the Spring on March 25, April 1, and April 8. Each dinner will include a different Monday night theme. Students have planned every aspect of these dinners from menu planning to execution. Cost of a ticket is $22.50.

Students are invited to take a free professional headshot for use on LinkedIn or other professional applications. Please remember to dress in business casual or business professional attire.

COAS to Host Strategic Initiative Research Panel & Roundtables

Date: Tuesday, Apr. 9, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
Location: Mary & John Gray Library, 8th floor

The LU College of Arts and Sciences Research and Creative Activity Committee members and students they mentored will share and discuss why mentoring matters. Light refreshments will be served.

Center for Resiliency Distributes Smart Storm Backpacks on Wednesdays

Date: Wednesday, Apr. 10, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Location: Cherry Engineering, Signature Center Suites (lobby)

The LU Center for Resiliency distributes disaster backpacks for SmartStorm disaster preparedness participants. Backpacks are being distributed on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cherry Engineering Building's Signature Center Suites lobby. Participants must bring verification of SmartStorm completion to receive a backpack.

Thoughtful Event
Lamar Dining to Host "Thoughtful" Event on Apr. 11

Date: Thursday, Apr. 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Location: Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall

Join Lamar Dining on the last JoyFul event of the year, "Thoughtful" on April 11. We will be focusing on health and happiness through food and activities. There will be a special menu, an agua fresca bar, giveaways (while supplies last) and more.

LU History Club Spring Market

The Spring Market will be a fundraiser event for the LU History Club, and we will also have other student organizations to showcase the items that they will be selling.

Walk A Cardinal Mile
Walk a Cardinal Mile Against Sexual Assault

Date: Thursday, Apr. 11, 12:45 - 2:15 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center (Ballroom Lobby)

Walk a Cardinal Mile to show support and raise awareness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. All are invited and encouraged to wear heels of their choosing. There will be a limited number of heels available to borrow, first come, first served. Win a prize for the craziest pair of heels.

Poetry Reading

Date: Friday, Apr. 12, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Wayne A. Reaud Building, Reaud Executive Event Space

Lamar University Literary Press authors David Meischen, Dave Oliphant, John Rutherford, and Kelly Ann Ellis will be reading selected poems from their new poetry collections. Refreshments and reception from 3:30 - 4:00 p.m., followed by poetry readings from 4 - 5 p.m. will take place.

Lamar Opera Theatre Presents: Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini

Date(s): Friday, Apr. 12 & Saturday, Apr. 13, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Location: Jimmy Simmons Music Building, Rothwell Recital Hall

Lamar Opera Theatre will present two performances of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, a one-act comic opera based on Dante's Inferno. All performances are free and open to the public. Performance duration is approximately one hour.

Join in the Fun at Family Game Day

Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center

It's time for Spring Family Game Day. Invite your family to spend a beautiful day on campus, enjoying activities planned for the whole family. We'll have musical chairs, tug-of-war, arts and crafts, basketball shoot-out, and more. Plus, every ticket includes free entry to the LU softball game.

Built Culture
The Built Culture of Southeast Texas with Tara A. Dudley

Date: Tuesday, Apr. 16, 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Dishman Art Museum (2nd floor gallery & auditorium)

Architectural scholar Tara Dudley will give the keynote at the 3rd Annual Greater Gulf Symposium. She will talk about the built culture of Southeast Texas. Dudley teaches at the University of Texas (Austin), and is the author of "Building Antebellum New Orleans," winner of the 2022 Summerlee Book Prize.

The Office of Undergraduate Research Presents Expo

Date: Thursday, Apr. 18 & Friday, Apr. 19, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, Live Oak Ballroom

The LU Office of Undergraduate Research invites all undergraduates and graduates to the Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities in Setzer Center's Live Oak Ballroom. Enjoy a banquet dinner on April 18 at 5 p.m. Register by April 1 using the QR code provided.

Dance Team Workshop
LU Dance Team Workshop for Kids

Date: Sunday, Apr. 21, noon - 3 p.m.
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center

Does your kid love to dance? Join us at the LU Dance Team's Spring Show Clinic for Kids. This event is open to all dancers 1st grade to 8th grade. Dancers will receive a T-shirt and a free ticket to the LU Dance Team Annual Show, plus they'll perform at intermission on May 4. Visit dbctl.com/danceteam to register.

KVLU 50th Anniversary Giving Campaign

This spring KVLU celebrates 50 years of public broadcasting in Southeast Texas. Our golden anniversary giving campaign begins on Monday, April 22 and will conclude with a 50th anniversary celebration on Tuesday, April 30. You can renew your membership or become a new member now at kvlu.org.

LU History Club Clothing Swap

Date: Tuesday, Apr. 23, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, San Jacinto Room

Help the LU History Club promote sustainability by bringing gently used clothing and swapping with others. If you would like to drop your clothing off before the event, please drop them off in Room 200 in the Archer Physics Building (upstairs).

Spring Concert - Spindletop
Touchdown Throwdown

Date: Friday, Apr. 26, 8:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

Come out and celebrate the end of the semester with live music featuring Dende, who has more than 230,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. This event is free for students. Food and drinks will be available at Spindletop Boomtown Museum, and there will be door prizes throughout the event. Must be 18 or older to attend.

Celebrate Earth Day This Year

Things that you can do for Earth Day on Monday, Apr. 22:

1. Have a meat-free day
2. Switch off (electricity)
3. Give up plastic bags
4. Don’t use the campus recycling containers (it won’t be recycled). Instead, bring it to the monthly LU Green Squad recycling events. (Our next event is scheduled for Saturday, May 5)
5. Plant a tree
6. Ride a bike or walk
