"Where The Amish Vacation" and "To Live" On View at the Dishman

Date(s): Now through Saturday Nov. 2
Location: Dishman Art Museum

Both exhibitions will be open from Sept. 20 through Nov. 2. The opening reception for both shows will be held Friday, Sept. 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Flu Clinic SHC
Avoid the Flu

Date: Wednesday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Location: Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center (lobby)

Cooler weather is coming - don't forget to get your flu shot. The Student Health Center is offering flu vaccines Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and Oct. 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rec Center lobby. The cost will be able to be charged to your LU account. Faculty/Staff will be $30, and students will be $28. Students: you may qualify for a free vaccine.

LU Center for Resiliency to Host Another Brown Bag Lecture

Date: Thursday, Sept. 26, 12:40 - 2:00 p.m.
Location: Cherry Building (Signature Center Suites, Room 105) or via Teams

Join us for the first lecture of the LU Center for Resiliency's "Clusters" series. Speakers include: Dr. S. Wang and student Arjun Shrestha, and Angela Clavijo with Stephan Malick and Karen Roebuck. Topics will include: 2024 Summer Camps, MIND- mental health intervention and diversion, disaster perspectives through immigration/cultural themes, and general storytelling.

LIVE Bayoulands Podcast Recording

Location: Dishman Art Museum Auditorium

KVLU invites the public to a live recording for the Bayoulands podcast. KVLU Station Manager Jason Miller will lead a conversation with Patrick Patterson and Uliana Trylowsky inspired by an exhibition of Patrick's photographs documenting the war in Ukraine, which will be on view at the Dishman Art Museum.

Writing a Successful URG Proposal

All students interested in submitting a grant proposal or who want to learn how to write a compelling narrative are invited to attend this workshop hosted by Mrs. Casey Ford, the Director of Writing Center.

A Spindletop Live Experience Powered by Pepsi

Date: Saturday, Sept. 28, 6 - 10 p.m.
Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

The “Live Experience” will showcase performances from local artists, like Luke Whitney and Ariel Moses. Join us as we celebrate the newly remodeled Spindletop Boomtown Museum and the grand opening of the Boomtown Square Bar and Grill. Tickets are free for LU and the public.

KVLU Hosts COFAC Student Open House

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Location: KVLU Studio

The Fall 2024 Career Expo is open to all students and alumni of all majors seeking internships, co-ops, and full-time positions in a variety of fields. Appropriate attire in business casual or professional dress is required to attend this event. Bring copies of your resume to share with employers.

National Stuttering Association Beaumont/Lamar Chapter Meeting

If you stutter, you are not alone. It’s estimated that over 160 Lamar faculty, students and staff share the common experience of stuttering. Come join our support group, a proven way to build self-confidence, practice speaking, and explore ways to cope with stuttering.

"Another Way" Book Release Reading and Lecture

Join us for a reading and lecture celebrating the release of Another Way: Poetry and Prose from high school students in Jefferson County. Joe Francisco, Beaumont-raised chemist from U-Penn, will also be giving a lecture. All are welcome.

Turtle on a Post: Memoirs of Carl Parker with Jim Sanderson

Date: Thursday, Oct. 10, 6 - 7 p.m.
Location: Tyrrell Historical Library (695, Pearl Street, Beaumont)

LU Writer-in-Residence Dr. Jim Sanderson will talk about his work with Carl Parker in writing his memoirs Turtle on a Post. Parker (1934-2024) was born in Port Arthur and served 33 years (1962-1995) in the Texas Legislature. Sanderson is an award-winning author of eight novels and he is also a creative writing teacher. 2024 Digital Ticket Learning Technologies Conference

Date: Friday, Oct. 25, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: LU Setzer Student Center

Free online registration is now open for the 2024 Digital Ticket Conference. Registered attendees will attend sessions centered on digital learning and the latest in educational technology. Registration includes lunch and coffee/snacks between sessions. Session proposals will be accepted through August 31.

Walk Like MADD 5k

Date: Saturday, Nov. 9, 7:30 a.m. - Noon
Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

The 2024 Walk Like MADD Beaumont event is MADD's signature fundraising event to help us raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. Register and donate today to help us save more lives. Fire Truck Pull will be held at 10:30 a.m.

World Mental Health Day Event

Date: Thursday, Oct. 10, Noon - 1:30 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center Atrium

The Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting a World Mental Health Day event. The purpose is to raise awareness about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and promoting mental well-being. There will be information provided by LU student organizations and community-based organizations.

LU Center for Resiliency Continues Disaster Backpack Distributions on Wednesdays

Finish out hurricane season by preparing with the LU Center for Resiliency Smartstorm disaster training and receive a backpack complete with emergency supplies to assist you and your family in the event of a disaster. Bring your participation verification to the Signature Center suites located in the Cherry Engineering Building on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

McNair Scholars Applications Open for 2025 Cohort

Applications are open for the 2025 cohort of McNair Scholars. McNair Scholars invites students who have a strong interest in research and are either First Generation or underrepresented in graduate study to apply early and before Friday, Nov. 1. Hearing Evaluations
Lamar Audiology Clinic Open for Fall

The LU Speech and Hearing Clinic offers audiology services as a benefit of employment to employees, their insurance-covered dependents, or to currently enrolled students, with no out-of-pocket expenses. We also work with Vocational Rehabilitation for technology assistance. Call (409) 880-8171 for more information.
